Symptoms

Frozen shoulder / Neck Pain

Frozen shoulder is also known as adhesive capsulitis (AC). Shoulder joints are subjected to a lot of wear and tear with everyday use. Stiffness occurs when the capsule of connective tissue that holds your ligaments, tendons, and bones in these joints thicken and tighten. If frozen shoulder is left untreated, you’ll probably lose the ability to move your arm. This puts strain on other areas of your body, including your neck. Your neck will begin to hurt because you’re overusing your cervical muscles to compensate. You can also develop tendonitis.

Acupuncture aims to help relieve pain by stimulating certain acupoints to affect the nervous system. This then causes a release in neurochemical messengers, changing the body’s chemical state to promote both physical and mental wellbeing.

Sciatica/ Low back pain

Nearly 8 out of every 10 people will have low back pain at some point in life. Back pain is one of the top reasons people seek medical treatment. It is also the No. 1 reported reason for seeking acupuncture. Acupuncture is an effective tool for treating chronic back pain.

Headache/Migraine

Migraine is a type of throbbing headache that can also cause sensitivity to light, nausea and vomiting. Some people also experience auras or visual disturbances where they see flashes of light. There has been much research into migraines and the exact cause is yet to be defined. However, it is thought that hormonal changes and nerve signalling affect blood vessels in the brain and how the body responds to pain.

Acupuncture is very effective in treating migraines as it stimulates nerves and pressure points in the body to relieve symptoms.

Sprain/Tennis Elbow

Sprain, tennis elbow and other types of sports injuries are suffered by professional athletes, keen sportsmen and non-athletic people alike. Often succeeding where physiotherapy cannot, acupuncture is very effective in the treatment of these conditions and does not have any of the associated side effects of steroid injections. Usually a course of 4-6 treatments can see the problem resolved.
