Balanced Acupuncture

Dr Nan Xia

Acupuncture has been accepted by the mainstream NHS as an effective alternative method of pain control for patients suffering from chronic and acute pain. More and more people with chronic pain are looking to this method as an alternative or to use it alongside conventional pain relief methods.

The Principle and Benefits of Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the gentle insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body. This process stimulates sensory nerves under the skin and in the muscles. Evidence from modern research has demonstrated that acupuncture influence the production of the body’s communication substances, i.e. hormones and neurotransimitters. The resulting biochemical changes stimulate body’s natural healing abilities and promoting physical and emotional well-being. More details on Acupuncture can be found on mainstream medical websites

Why Dr Nan and what is Balanced Acupuncture?

Dr Nan Xia has more than 30 years clinical experience and has helped thousands of patients with pain issues. She distinguish her treatments from most conventional acupuncture therapy that she established “Balanced Acupuncture”. This stem from her background as her medical training started as a western medical doctor and then transferred to traditional Chinese Medical training. Her method is to diagnose with western scientific pinciples and treat the symptoms with acupuctures. Wtih her deep understanding of nerves, muscles, skeletal systems of western medical training, she can pinpoint the root cause of problems and symptoms. Then by performing the specific acupuncture techniques she invented during 30 years of treating patients, most patients feel pain relief instantly.

Dr Nan is pround on treating patients that have been deemed as “difficult” or “need to live with it” by NHS or other clinics. You can read successful treatment stories here: Symptoms and Treatments

Frequently asked Questions

Does Acupuncture treatment hurt?

Acupuncture needles are small and hair-thin. They are solid, not hollow like needles used by doctors. The end of an acupuncture needle is smooth and rounded. Acupuncture needles are not designed to cut the skin. Instead, when an acupuncture needle is inserted, the round edge pushes the tissue aside without cutting it. Acupuncture is rarely described as painful, and can be quickly adjusted if the patients does feel discomfort. Many people even fall asleep during treatment. Following treatments, it is common to feel a tremendous sense of relaxation and calm.

How quickly can I expect to feel better?

We are confident the patients can start to feel the benefits from acupuncture immediately after just 1 session, but could take up to 4-6 treatments to achieve best results. Normally, acute conditions tend to resolve much quicker than chronic conditions.

How often should I be treated?

We recommend acupuncture treatment once a week. If the condition is acute and painful, 2-3 treatments per week might be necessary for the first couple of weeks. The benefits of acupuncture treatments tend to last longer as you receive treatments, so patients need to atttend less frequent. Follow up treatments will be on an as needed basis when new symptoms arise or for routine maintenance.
